The Legion's President and General Secretary represented the Legion at the 30th Triennial Conference of The Royal Commonwealth Ex-services League held in Accra, Ghana from 19th to 23rd July, 2008. 43 other Legions were represented at the conference.

HRH Prince Phillip, Grand President of the RCEL chaired the main session of the conference and was present for most of the time including sitting in at group discussions. The Guyana Legion was part of the Caribbean Group headed by the Royal Canadian Legion. The two most important decisions taken were that the Conference will be held every four years instead of three and that Individual and Organisational Grants will continue for at least 10 years, however the terms of reference may vary. It felt that within 15 years from the conference date the amount of individual recipients of the Leagues financial benevolence would be almost, if not finished, hence it is necessary that organisations give thought and take action to provide their own capacity to support their needy members.

In the keynote speech Ambassador J E K Aggrey Orleans, former diplomat of Ghana and the United Nations, said . "A time may come, I dare hope and pray, when it may be a practical idea to talk of an organisation of veterans or ex-servicemen comprising the military, the police, the other security agencies of state, including the civilian

personnel of these agencies. Their needs and care will be securely provided for whether they are individuals, sick and handicapped, or able-bodied. Retirement and
de-mobilisation will no longer be curse words afflicting them with the spectre of doom, misery and isolation, as if they have never sacrificed even their lives for the good of their fellow citizens and the state."

The next Conference will be held in Malta in 2112.
